Why do you want to be the next Coronets?

Because we love Caer Galen, and we have some ideas on how to help our barony thrive.  There are a number of things we want to do for Caer Galen that will be easier to accomplish if we are wearing the coronets.

Bryn and Ronan were trying to figure out where the shortcomings were in Caer Galen's ability to bring in new members and retain current ones. Do you have any ideas on how to address these concerns?

We would like for Caer Galen, and the SCA in general, to be more visible within our communities. We want our group to be more involved with local activities and possibly start some outreach to CU Boulder and Front Range CC. We plan to participate in Longmont Pride again, and possibly expand to Boulder Pride next year. Everyone who attended Longmont Pride Fest this year had such great interactions withevent staff and festival attendees that we want to expand our presence going forward. We want to occasionally have a presence at Farmers markets and art walks, and return to the Heritage Fair. We want to give every new person a purpose and something they can do to feel like they belong and that they are contributing. We want to make sure everyone feels appreciated and no one feels like they are left out.

What contributions have you made to Caer Galen recently that you feel are important?

Livia recently has become Captain of Archers, increasing the number of participants and has introduced thrown weapons to the Barony. She is very proud of Caer Galen's Scribal Arts and Artisans. It has been a few since she started putting effort into growing and nurturing the Scribal community, but the Scribal Arts are flourishing again and are now in the capable hands of Master Maxmilliano. Yazida has organized the meal plans for Caer Galen and its friends for Gurkenschlucht and Battlemoor and baked Caer Galen's birthday cakes for our 22nd anniversary as a barony which coincided with Jotunnstaur. Yazida was instrumental in getting Caer Galen to participate in our very first Pride event and spent the whole day welcoming Pridegoers to Caer Galen and answering questions about the SCA. We have several new participants who found (or re-found) us through our booth at Pride. Livia was one of the autocrats for the recent Enduro on the Nile event, and Yazida was part of the core staff. They were responsible for many of the props, encounters, costumes, and prizes, in close collaboration with the other core staff members. Yazida and Livia were also part of the Caer Galen contingent who attended the Battlemoor cleanups and helped our camp coordinator allocate space, set up camp, and create and decorate the common area for people to enjoy. Livia and Yazida have created many Caer Galen and Outlands scrolls over the years. This includes Livia's drive to get Caer Galen caught up with back scrolls, which resulted in 31 scrolls given to recipients during Midwinter in 2023. Livia was the liaison with the Church of the Lookout, securing a free archery practice site, and opening the door to hold Midwinter and Coronation there. She also negotiated a very reduced price for the Enduro site, enabling Caer Galen to pad its coffers a little.

What do you plan to do for Caer Galen if you are chosen?

First and foremost, we plan to show up for our people. We will do our best to pay attention to Caer Galen's needs and be as proactive as we can to address them. Concretely,  we plan to expand our outreach to the general public to attract participants and new members. We intend to improve Caer Galen's visibility by posting information on public community and city boards.  We would like to increase communication within the Barony, as well as with the general public. We want to make sure that the hard work  a d achievements that the people of Caer Galen have accomplished are appropriately recognized. We hope that by making our people feel welcome, and seen, and important to us, we can attract and retain new people, and hopefully bring back some veterans. We would welcome feedback from the other citizens of Caer Galen on how to keep things fun and interesting, and we would like to hear suggestions on new ideas and projects that will help Caer Galen grow our reputation as a fun and hospitable group.

What do you think makes you a good fit for the baronage in general and, specifically, a good fit for Caer Galen?

We love Caer Galen and its people. Yazida was the first Baroness and lived in the Shire of Caer Galen for almost seven years before co-founding the Barony 22 years ago. Yazida helped  create most of the baronial awards, started many of the traditions that make the Barony a fun place to be, was Seneschal after stepping down as Baroness, and has endeavored,  as Doge, to ease the transition between the past Coronets and the future Coronets. Livia has lived in Caer Galen for 14 years and has held numerous offices and autocratted many events in that time.  Together, we have 43 years of combined experience being Caer Galenites. Out time and participation in the Barony and the Outlands gives us experience and perspective to be the people the Barony deserves and we will work hard to be the leaders the people need.

What other commitments do you have currently that could impact your service?

We each have some travel next year, but most of our travel plans do not overlap each other. We plan to have at least one, and usually both, of us attend almost every Caer Galen function, including fighter practices (and the informal get together at Red Robin afterwards), Social Nights, Scribal Nights, Archery and Thrown Weapons practices, Equestrian practices, garb-making workshops, events, demos, and vigils.
